Republicans held a similar hearing at the outset of proceedings against President Bill Clinton in 1998, and Democrats say the move is a necessary prerequisite to drafting articles of impeachment.
“The impeachment inquiry is entering into a new phase,” Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.) said in a statement. “Our first task is to explore the framework put in place to respond to serious allegations of impeachable misconduct like those against President Trump.”
Most notably, the hearing will give Trump and his legal team the option to participate. The president and his allies have blasted Democrats over their impeachment inquiry, saying it has failed to include meaningful due process for the president.

Here’s CNN’s exit poll from 2018. Among those who voted for Trump in 2016, 8% voted for Democrats in 2018. If my math is right, it’s about 3-4% of the overall electorate (complicated by the fact that turnout in 2018 was about 10% lower than turnout in 2016). Democrats also won fairly big among those who voted third party or didn’t vote (a total of 16% of the 2018 electorate).

I think for a lot of former Republicans, they had deluded themselves into thinking that the high brow conservative movement was what the party really was. They couldn’t/wouldn’t acknowledge that the movement was not what the Republican base was.
The base got swept up in grievance politics, scared of a rapidly changing world, and bought into their worst instincts which were amplified by the likes of Limbaugh and Hannity and O’Rielly and the rest. Trump is the perfect avatar for the base, and is willing to exploit it to his full advantage.
The movement types would have been fine with someone like Cruz or Rubio or Jeb because they know that those guys would be willing to tell the base to piss off on a few issues. Trump won’t do that because he’s not interested in anything other than lining his otherwise empty pockets, and he knows that he can make more by giving the base the nastiest parts of what they want.

Plus, nationally 4.89% of the national vote went to Johnson/Stein/McMullin, which is historically high for third party votes. By comparison Johnson and Stein combined for just 1.35% in 2012; and Nader and Barr combined for less than 1% in 2008.
Realistically, there’s about 3.5% of voters that would have otherwise voted for a major party nominee in 2016 but for the choices. I suspect a fairly decent amount of them will end up voting for the Democratic nominee; and I can’t imagine a scenario where a significant number of them vote for Trump.

First, I’m definitely not an expert, but I’ve never seen a 4003 that doesn’t have a USA emblem below the strings near the neck. Then, this was supposed to be “mint” from a collector’s stable, and yet it had grunge stains on the body, and dust all along the side of the bridge pickup. I decided I’d go ahead and pull the strings and change them out for some Rotosounds. Whoops. Wear marks on the frets. “Played lightly, if ever.” Nope. Then, this….
There’s a divet in the top of the fretboard there. So, needless to say, it’s going back. The thing that sucks is that if I want another bass by Christmas, I’ll probably have to just shell out more money because the refund on this is presumably gonna take a couple of weeks.
